Yellowstone National Park

I didn't have time last night to post. We spent the day in Yellowstone National Park. It is a 50 mile drive from Cody to Yellowstone. We passed the 2 Passport America Parks that we were thinking of staying in, and for what we wanted they would not have worked. They are Yellowstone Valley Inn (18 miles from Cody) and Green Creek Inn (22 miles from Cody). I guess they could work for visiting Yellowstone but I would rather stay in the park. There was road construction on the road in from the East entrance and we had to wait about 15 minutes. You know who it goes, first one direction then the other. I took a couple of pictures while we waited.

We decided to take the shorter loop that went from the East entrance around Canyon Village, over to Old Faithful and back. I was surprised that even this late in the season Fishing Bridge campground was full. We saw a lot of buffalo this time. Last time we visited Yellowstone we only saw a few buffalo until the last day. It was a cool day so I was surprised that we didn't see many animals. The scenery is beautiful in Yellowstone. There are parts where the trees are still coming back from fires in the past.

First stop was the sulphur springs area. Phew, they stink. Yellowstone is an inactive volcano so all the geysers and bubbling pots are caused by that. There are sections where there used to be forests and now there aren't because of the ground became super heated. I took a lot of pictures this time so you should enjoy those.

We had lunch at Canyon Village Inn. Boy the prices in Yellowstone are high but we knew that. Bill and I both had turkey burgers. They were good. In the National Parks a lot of the staff working in the stores and restaurants are from Europe. Our waiter was from Slovakia. He was a very meticulous young man and made sure everything was just the way we wanted it. We have noticed this in all the different National Parks we have visited.

We have seen so many buffalo (I guess I should say bison) between here and Custer State Park that when it is becoming old hat. We were more interested in the other animals. Here is one group of buffalo we couldn't help stopping for. They were in the middle of Fishing Bridge and you had to wait until they moved before you could cross. We are right behind the motorhome you see the back of. Bill got out of the car for this picture.

We stopped at Old Faithful. We were lucky that it was close to the time it would go off. We only had to wait about 10 minutes. It did seem that there was much more steam this time than last. The area we were sitting in was the wrong one. The wind blew the steam right into us. We all got a little wet. It was interesting that the water was cold, not warm.

Well I hope you enjoy the pictures. I will post today's happenings later.
