More exploring

Tuesday, Aug 3

This morning it was very overcast and looked like rain. I hope not as we have plans for later this evening that require us to be outdoors.

Our first place to visit was the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame, here in Medora. As they say on the building, it is dedicated to the preservation of the western heritage and cultures of Native Americans, ranching and rodeo. We enjoyed looking at all the exhibits they had.

After we finished there we decided to walk a couple of blocks over and have lunch. There aren't a huge number of places to eat here so we wound up back at the Cowboy Cafe. It was really busy and there were even people waiting for tables by the time we finished.

Next we drove down the road to another portion of the TR National Park to view the Painted Canyon. It is quite pretty. We spent some time just enjoying the peace and quiet.

Well the weather cooperated and we were able to do the plans we had tonight. We are going to have dinner at the Cowboy Fondue and then see the Medora Musical. They are both held at the top of the hill just outside of town but in two separate venues. It is really neat to look out over the town and the surrounding area. You could even see the campground we are staying at!

The meat is put on pitchforks and then cooked in hot oil. I know, deep fried steak, how good could that be?!? Actually, it was pretty good.

You sit outside on a large patio along with a couple hundred of your closest friends. They do have entertainment while you are waiting in line or sitting at your table. They had a trio playing and the singer was really good. When you buy your tickets to this you are asked the type of steak you want. Bill and I had 9 oz New York steaks so we were given the black plate. You then go through the line and get veggies, cole slaw, fruit, bread, a baked potato and toppings, and beans. Then you get your steak on a separate plate. They also have coffee, leomonade, water for drinks and brownies or cake for dessert. We were stuffed by the time we finished eating.

After eating we headed over to the amphitheatre to see the Medora Musical. It is a show that they have been putting on for 45 years. Not the same show each year but a musical performance. The theatre is outside, similar to the Ramona pagent in Hemet. The weather was nice and we were seated in the 6th row so the seats were great. There was a band, singers who also danced and clogged, and various other performers. They had a magician who performed too but I didn't get any pictures of him as it was too dark by then.

Bill is going to be happy to leave the park we are in as the train that runs close by is too loud. I don't hear it most of the time once I fall asleep but he does. We pull out of here tomorrow morning.

I hope you like all the pictures. Here is the entire slideshow.
