2011 begins

Dec 29 - Jan 2

We spent the holiday weekend at Lake Elsinore Marina in Lake Elsinore, CA.  The lake is certainly full, after all the rain we have had this year.  There were very few boats on the lake though, since it was so cold.  We didn't have any rain but my goodness, it was cold.

On Thursday, once we arrived and got set up, we drove over to the house and picked Lola up to spend a day or so with us.  It is like grand kids, you borrow them once in awhile then return them all spoiled.  She behaved very well.  We worked on her jumping issue and she was calming down by the end of the first day.  Bill walked her a lot on both days and this helped calm her down.

She also got to play with some of the other dogs in the Camping Squares pack.  The little ones didn't like her jumping on them but a few of the bigger dogs played right along.  Lola spent the night and she was very quiet and well behaved.  We took her home on Friday afternoon and she wanted to sit with us, not Nick, at the house.

Friday night the club had their New Years Eve party.  At 5:00 PM they did a cheese tasting contest.  I didn't participate as I didn't want to use the points eating cheese.  Our dinner was catered and was very good.  We had a buffet that featured a tossed green salad, a spinach salad, green beans with peppers and onions, sauteed zucchini and squash, baked chicken, pork loin with cherry sauce, talapia breaded and fried.  Everyone said everything was delicious.  Dessert was picked up at Costco.  They had cheesecake, chocolate cake, apple pie, and lemon cake.  I passed on dessert.  Many people brought wine or alcohol in for dinner, something we rarely do.

After dinner we played a game or two while waiting for the New Year.  We also did some off-key singing to songs we knew while others danced.  Later in the evening the Karaoke was introduced and we enjoyed that too.  We had one casualty of the evening, who had to be walked (carried) back to his motorhome, but he had a good time (or so we told him the next day).  Everyone had a great time and 11 of us make it to midnight.  Most of those folks didn't get up until later the next day.  We didn't have our regularly scheduled breakfast but the club purchased doughnuts for everyone.

Saturday is our normal potluck and dance.  The dance wasn't well attended, most were too tired but everyone was at the potluck.  Our meal tonight was soups, chili's, breads and a salad bar.  I think it went over well and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Around the corner from the RV park is an outlet mall.  Many, many trips were made to this mecca of shopping.  I even made a trip but didn't buy much.  All in all we had a good weekend.

Sunday, the 2nd, was my parents 59th anniversary.  Bill and I joined their friends Charles and Sue in having dinner with them at Steer & Stein, a local steak house.  It was a very good meal and it was good to visit with everyone.

So 2011 is off to a roaring start.  I hope it is a good year for everyone.
