Up and around earlier today. We are headed into visit the Lincoln Museum and Library. We didn't actually go into the Library as it is really the repository for archived books and items.
Both Bill and I were impressed with this museum. It is very well done. You can follow Lincoln's life from his log cabin beginnings to his life in the White House. Unfortunately, you can't take pictures inside the various exhibits, just out in the common area so I don't have a lot to show you.
As you walk from the parking structure you can see the State House.
Here is a picture of the Lincoln family outside the White House. A little liberty is taken as the oldest son passed away before Lincoln became President.
You can also visit a representation of a log cabin Lincoln might have lived in.
Around the White House there were various characters; John Wilkes Booth, Gen McClellan, and US Grant.
We spent a couple of hours checking out all the exhibits and things in the Museum. There were two films that were very good. One we are still arguing over whether or not the narrator was real.
After we finished at the Museum we were really hungry so we decided to go to a place called Cozy Dog. It is the home of the corn dog. It is suppose to be the first place that ever made corn dogs. Terry is the only one who had a corn dog. Bill and I both had pork tenderloin sandwiches. They were really good but funny looking. The meat was twice as big as the bun! Too bad I didn't take my camera in. I cut my meat in half and doubled it on the bun and the meat still hung off. Cozy Dog is on the original Route 66.
After lunch we all decided to find a frozen custard place for dessert. I had a blended concrete. That is frozen custard mixed with a filling. I had fresh blackberries. Yummy.
We headed back to the campground and enjoyed a nice quiet afternoon. We met the people who are staying close to us and enjoyed talking to them for a bit.
Tomorrow we head into the Chicagoland area. We will be there for 3 nights. We are planning on taking a tour of the city but I don't know what else.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures.
