It rained during the night but it stopped by morning. That just made everything in the campground muddy. It did clean my windows in the car though. We got another late start, not even getting out of bed before 8:00 AM since it was still dark. We are planning another day of touring. When we were in different campgrounds before here everyone kept telling us we would see all kinds of animals in Jasper. They walk all over town and in the campgrounds! Yeah right. We haven’t seen much at all.
Our first destination was the Miette Hot Springs. We decided to drive up and see how much it cost. If it wasn’t too bad we would spend an hour or so there.
On the way we saw a bunch of people standing on the side of the road taking pictures of something. Of course we pulled over. There was a small herd of elk relaxing by the river. It was one male and about 7 females. It is the rutting season right now so this big fellow was keeping an eye on all his ladies.
Next we saw a sign for a waterfall. It was a big parking lot so we assumed it was going to be a good size fall. Nope, you could barely see the top of the fall and you couldn’t get to the bottom or front at all. I think it was called Whirlpool falls.
Soon we were back on the road and driving into the parking lot of the hot springs. The price for seniors was only $5.15 so we decided to stay for a bit. We had brought our suits and towels with us so we went into the dressing rooms to change. You can rent suits and towels here if you don’t have your own. The water was supposed to be 104 degrees but I don’t think it was that hot. It was nice to relax in for a while. There are 2 pools, one shallow and one deeper. There are also 2 small cold pools. We didn’t go in those at all. After enjoying our dip we headed back to town. Oh, Bill took this picture for Terry. Hope you enjoy it.
On our way back we stopped in the parking lot for the falls again and enjoyed our lunch. We couldn’t find a spot with a table so we just got our chairs out and sat on the side of the parking lot. We are going to put a small folding table in the car for times like these.
On the way back to town we came across a mountain goat relaxing on the mountain. He just sat there and let people take his picture.
We also saw a bunch of people stopped on the side of the road but couldn’t figure out why. It turned out that the river is so shallow here you can practically walk across without the water getting over your knees.
The elk were still at the same point in the river so we got a couple more pictures. This time they were standing up.
In town we made a stop at Tim Horton’s to check in with our email and Facebook. I also uploaded yesterday’s pictures and blog post. After we finished our drinks and internet connection we walked down some streets in town we haven’t been on yet. I did pick up a couple of things for gifts and something for myself.
I put some country ribs in the crockpot before we left this morning so dinner is basically cooked. All I have to do is warm up some leftover mac and cheese and make a salad.
We had a visitor in the late evening. She came right up to the back of the rig.
So that is all for today. Enjoy the pictures.
