Sunday - Tuesday, Sept 14-16, 2014
Sunday was moving day but we only had about 50 miles to go so we were not in a hurry. In fact, we didn't leave the campground until noon. Checkout was 3:00 PM. We had a casual drive and pulled into Roamer's Retreat Campground in Kinzers, PA around 1:00 PM. We found our campsite and got settled in. A Tiffin rally was leaving as we came in. We didn't really do much the rest of the day. The weather was a bit cool but no rain.
Monday we drove around a bit and did some almost shopping. I have selected a few items that I want to buy but am waiting until just before we leave here to buy them, just in case I find something better. Bill and I are also trying to stay away from all the baked goods and candy but it is soooo tempting.
Tuesday I spent the morning getting caught up on some family tree research. We plan on going to York on Wednesday and I want to make sure I have everything I need to do the research. We decided to go out to lunch instead of dinner since the buffets around here are a lot cheaper at lunchtime. We asked in the office and they recommended Yoder's in New Holland. A couple of places we have enjoyed before have closed since we were last here. One of them was Stoltzfus', which is the place where the Donner party ate when we were here. Bummer. We enjoyed our lunch, it was only $10 for the buffet and it had a lot of food on it. We then walked through the gift shop and the grocery store. We were impressed with the grocery. The prices were a bit high but everything looked fresh.
Yoder's is a local place. It is a bit of a distance from most of the other "Amish" type restaurants but there were a lot of Amish and Mennonites eating here, not a lot of tourists.
We look the scenic route back to the campground and passed the homes of the "rich" Amish. There were some good looking houses out there! And I don't think they were cheap. You could tell they were Amish by the wash hanging on the lines.
That was our last few days. Hope you had a good time.
