Austin, TX day 3

Monday, 5/18/2015
Austin, TX

I don't think it rained last night but I wouldn't know, I slept through it!  We got up and had a leisurely breakfast.  Then we got together with the others and headed to the LBJ Library and Museum.  It is about 8 miles up the road from where we are.  It is a nice museum, well laid out.  After this one we only have 3 left to visit.  We plan on hitting those on this trip.

This is the first Presidential Library that Rick & Janie have been to.  They haven't even been to the ones in Calif!

LBJ had a rough job as President.  He didn't get us into Vietnam but he was held responsible for escalating the war.  He knew it couldn't be won but he couldn't find a way out either.  He was a good President and saw many social reform bills pass.  He was responsible for the Civil Rights Act, the Right to Vote Act, many education bills, Public Television and many others.

Lady Bird was really responsible for many beautification projects.  She loved wildflowers and nature.  She was soft and quiet while he was loud and crude.  LBJ spent many years as the Majority Leader in the house and was very effective.  Their two daughters were married in the White House.

After our visit to the Library we stopped at Whataburger, a chain here in the area.  Everyone said we had to try it so we did.  We were not impressed.  The burgers were fine but nothing exciting.  Guess it isn't for everyone.  After that we headed back to the rigs to walk the dogs.  Then we headed out the the LBJ Ranch and Western White House.  I took some pictures of the ranch but we couldn't take pictures of the Western White House.

LBJ was one hard working President.  He had phones installed in every room and was never more than a couple of feet from one.  He was a workaholic.  The ranch had been in the family for many years when he bought it from his aunt and it became the family home.

Tomorrow it is suppose to rain so we don't know what we are going to do.  Bill and I may go to the movies.

Here are all the pictures I took.  Enjoy them.
