Today we decided to drive a scenic road, Montana 1. I had read about this drive in a couple of places. There is an old historic town on the route, Philipsburg. We passed a couple of billboards on the way advertising this town so I had high expectations. Unfortunately, it didn't meet those expectations. The building are indeed old but there really isn't anything for tourists in the town. The had a couple of restaurants/bars and a couple of antique/junk shops, nothing exciting. They didn't even have the standard souvenir shops. We walked up and down the main street but didn't spend a lot of time there.
We decided to finish the drive and go 30 miles down the road to Anaconda. This part of the drive took you into the mountains and past some rolling farms. The total drive was about 200 miles, round-trip. Gas is currently priced at $2.79 for unleaded so it wasn't that expensive. I don't think we will be taking drives of that distance for awhile. We didn't see any wild life either. The weather was nice though. The wind has stopped and it has warmed up.
We ate lunch in Anaconda at a local restaurant. The service was a bit on the sloooow side. We both ordered turkey club sandwiches but what we got was nothing like what we expected. Usually a club sandwich has 3 pieces of bread and is cut in quarters. This one was grilled like a pannini and only had 2 slices of bread. I would call it more of a grilled sandwich. Even the tomatoes in it were grilled. It was a good sandwich, just a little on the greasy side. That is going to be our main meal of the day. We will snack later tonight.
So now we have to finish getting stuff put away and ready to pull out tomorrow morning. Since we only have about 120 miles to get to Kalispell we won't be in a hurry. Check-out is at noon but we will probably leave between 10:00 and 11:00.
Here are a couple of pictures.
