Friday, Aug 20

We got through our first night here. Turns out there is a light just behind our rig that shines in our bedroom window. I think we will put up the room darkening curtain tonight.

Our day was centered around a trip to a place about 24 miles away. Do you know what this picture is of?

That's right! This is where all your gold is stored - Fort Knox! We drove over to the base to check out the Patton Museum and do a little shopping. This was about as close as we could get to the gold depository.

We went to the Patton Museum first. This is not just a museum dedicated to George Patton but also a museum on the history of the tank corp. They have many, many tanks and stuff in the museum. They also have much of Patton's personal belongings and you can learn his life story here. We drove around and around looking for it. You can access the museum off-base and then walk in to it or if you have access to the base you can park right at it. They don't have a lot of signs on this base and we missed the one they had.

We spent a long time checking out everything here. There were a lot of people here in full uniforms. I think there was a graduation ceremony somewhere on base and people came to the museum afterward.

After the museum we drove around and around again looking for the commissary and PX. We found one sign that said they were straight ahead but there was never another sign that gave further direction. We finally stumbled onto them. We ate lunch at the PX and split a large cheese steak sandwich, fries and a soda. We walked around the PX but didn't find anything we couldn't live without. For me that meant books, they didn't have anything new. Bill got his hair cut and they almost left him some. It is really short. It will grow out in time for the wedding. He likes it but to me it looks like he is still on active duty.

After this we went to the commissary and did a little grocery shopping. I like to check out anything they have that is different from what we normally get at home. Nothing really different here.

It was almost 4:00 PM by the time we got home. I fell asleep for a bit on the couch. Since we had such a late lunch we didn't want much for dinner. I decided to just make tuna salad sandwiches.

This was our day. Hope you enjoyed yours. Here are all the pictures.
