So yesterday my right leg got covered with bug bites and this morning they got my left leg! They don't bother Bill at all but me they eat alive! I have to spray bug spray whenever I want to leave the rig.
So we are spending the next few nights in a little town called Medora, MT. It was named after the wife of a French nobleman, the Marquis de Mores. His wife was Medora von Hoffman in 1883. Another colorful person who was drawn to this area was a young New Yorker named Theodore Roosevelt. He arrived in 1883 to hunt buffalo, which were pretty much gone by that time. Eventually he would own two large ranches in the area. When he came here he was a sickly young man but life in the Dakotas made him into the man who became President in 1901. He was a devout conservationist and established many National parks and National Preserves. The Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located just outside Medora.
I decided not cook tonight and we went to dinner at a local place called the Cowboy Cafe. It is a very small place but the food was good. They give you a choice of soup or juice instead of soup or salad. Tonight the soup was borscht so both of us passed on that. Bill had the liver and onions, that he said was good. I had roast beef. They were both served with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. The cafe didn't take credit cards but would take a check. Guess we have to remember to carry cash when we are in small towns. The town is so small there isn't a grocery store and the only gas station is two pumps at the liquor store. The campground has a decent selection but the only thing I needed was milk. If I had known there wasn't a grocery store I would have shopped in Miles City!
We ran into a lot of bugs on the road and the front of the rig was covered with them when we pulled in. Tomorrow morning Bill is going to get up and wash them off.
This campground is one of two private campgrounds in town. There is a campground in the National Park but there are no hookups. Once again there is a train track close by. Luckily they don't pass too many times a day. The sites are a little tight but that is to be expected. The price isn't too bad either. For some reason we can't lock in the satellite so we are using their cable.
The campground supplies entertainment every night. It is a couple that plays mostly country/western music. They have been playing here for 27 years. Many of the songs they sung brought back memories as my parents played them when I was growing up.
Here are the rest of the pictures.
