Miles City, MT

Saturday, July 31

We got up early this morning so that we could drive back to Billings to get our windshield repaired. We crossed our fingers hoping that it wouldn't spread. The repair shop opened at 9:00 AM and we wanted to get there as close to that as possible. We got there around 9:15 and they went right to work. They wanted to get us out of there as we were taking up most of their parking lot! Anyway, it is filled and it should hold. Now we have repaired stars on both sides of the windshield. Hey, at about $2000 to repair the thing we repair what we can.

The drive over was fine, just hot. We made a stop at a rest area to have lunch and turned on the generator and air conditioner. We drove the rest of the way with the house air on instead of the dash air.

We stopped for the night in Miles City, MT. The campground, Big Sky RV Park, is close to the highway. The highway noise isn't a problem but there are train tracks around here somewhere. It wasn't as load as the last place but why, oh why, do campgrounds have to be close to the train tracks?!? I stood outside of the rig for just a few minutes while Bill unhooked the car (we were going for a drive later). I wasn't outside for very long and I wasn't standing in grass but I was eaten alive again. Sheesh, I just got the other ones healed!

We took a drive over to the Range Riders Museum. It was a place that paid homage to local ranchers and families. There was a lot of stuff. One building housed the antique gun collection of the Clarke Family. This was a collection of guns, swords, arrowheads, and other items. One problem, at least for me, was that the buildings were not air conditioned and it was hot outside. They also had a bunch of items from other local families. Most everything was housed in buildings that you accessed from the main room. There were Indian objects, dinosaur bones, household items, brands of the various ranches, and even a "ladies" room with hats and clothes. There were also some old buildings outside but we didn't visit those. Afterward we drove around town. Downtown was pretty much empty and the stores closed but it was after 6:00 PM.

When we got back to the rig I made dinner and we watched TV. We kept getting notices that there were storm warnings in the area. They talked about rain, hail, wind, and lightning. We decided to keep the windows closed and run the air conditioner. Trouble was, nothing ever showed up. I think there was about 30 seconds of rain around 1:00 AM, but that was it. We were happy about that.

That was it for today. Enjoy the pictures
