The rest of the Bourbon Trail

Wednesday, August 25

Today we got up and got going as we planned on completing the final three distilleries today. When I get these I can then send in for my t-shirt! The problem is that these three are the furthest away from where we are camped. The furthest one is about 60 miles away. We decided to start with the furthest out and work our way back in.

First on our list is Woodford Reserve Distillery. We didn't take the tour here but did walk through the visitor's center and gift shop. They had some displays there that walked your through the distilling process. They also had a display of the various products their parent company owns. Woodford Reserve is owned by Brown-Forman Beverages. This company also owns Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort, Canadian Mist, Early Times, Fetzer wine, Chambord, Korbel, and Findlandia. They have almost cornered the world liquor business.

It appears that Guy Fieri also visited this distillery as there was a signed poster on the wall.

Our next stop was the distillery of the bourbon I remember always being in our house - Wild Turkey. We took this tour but the facility is shut down for the summer so no production was going on. The Wild Turkey facility isn't as spiffy as the other places but they do make a good bourbon.

On the front porch of the visitor's center they have a wild turkey you can ride -

After we finished tasting the Rare Breed and the American Honey blends of Wild Turkey we headed to the last place.

Last, but certainly not least, we visited Four Roses distillery. We also didn't tour here. To be honest, we could probably make our own bourbon with the many tours we have taken. They had a nice gift shop and I got the last stamp in my bourbon passport. Now I can send in for my t-shirt.

On our way home we stopped at Cracker Barrel and had dinner. We both had ham dinners but with different sides. I looked for a small cafe or something but couldn't find one so that is why we ended up here.

Back at the rig we started our moving chores. Tomorrow we head south to the Mammoth Cave area of Kentucky.

Enjoy the pictures

We took our kids to Mammoth Cave several times when they were little, and we all loved it. I'm sure they have changed things over the years and the tours are probably different. I'm looking forward to hearing about it.
