Saturday & Sunday, Sept 11 & 12
Saturday we drove further east and arrived at Pierce Mobile Home & Travel Trailer Park. Actually it is a nice small park. There are a number of mobile homes here but they are all well maintained. There are probably less than a dozen spots for motorhomes but hey, it works. There are no amenities, no pool, no wifi, no cable, no bath house but nice large grass lots and it is only $20 a night. No, it is not a Passport America park. We did make a run to the local market (Super Walmart) for a few groceries before we head out tomorrow. Here is a picture of our site.
We did call Terry and wish him a happy birthday. They are in Napa Valley celebrating. I hope he had a glass of wine for me.
Sunday we got up but were not in a hurry. We are heading out to the Outer Banks. Unfortunately it started raining last night and is still raining off and on. We waited until there was a break to unhook. We did run into a couple of spots where it was raining on the drive out. It is kinda weird to drive out on some of those bridges and across the intercostal waterway. It is a one lane road and even though we were doing the speed limit we developed a line of cars behind us. There was nowhere to pull over and let people by so we did the best we could to let them pass. There were a couple of places where the sand had been blown onto the road and a few with standing water. That slowed everyone down. Here is a picture of the drive.
We are now parked at the Sands of Time campground in Avon, NC. It is on the Hatteras island and a few miles from the lighthouse. Since it continued to drizzle the rest of the day we didn't do much after arriving and getting hooked up. This is a PA park and we are paying $22.00 a night plus electricity. We pay electricity when we are parked for months at a time but this is the first park we have been in where we pay for only a couple of nights.
Tomorrow the weather is suppose to be nice and we are going exploring. I will take lots of pictures. Here are the ones of the campground and of the drive.
