Sun Valley, AZ

Monday, Nov 15

Yesterday we passed from Central time to Mountain Time and I forgot to reset my clock so when I got up this morning I thought it was 7:30 instead of 6:30!  Oh well, I was awake so we went ahead and got read to move on.  Today we are headed about 225 miles west to Sun Valley, AZ.

While we were on the road I called the next two campgrounds to see if I needed reservations and to check that they were still honoring Passport America.  I may have paid $399 for this membership four years ago but I have more than saved that amount.  Anyway, I wasn't sure if the one in Camp Verde, called Distant Drums, would accept the PA rate now.  Their info on the PA website says it isn't good for Nov but I called anyway.  They said they would honor it so I made reservations for 2 nights, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Camp Verde is very close to Sedona, AZ.  We have visited here before and are looking forward to going there again.

The drive was pretty windy today.  We even had icy rain a couple of times but it melted as soon as it touched the windshield.  I can't wait to drop down in altitude and get warmer.  Which should happen tomorrow.

We are at the Root 66 (no, I didn't spell that wrong) campground in Sun Valley, AZ.  We are about 10 miles east of Holbrook but we can't pick up any TV channels.  Even my new magic antenna doesn't help.  Guess we will watch some of the things I have recorded.  It is still windy and cold and will get down to about 29 tonight.  Bill will have to unhook the water after I finish cooking dinner.  This campground would probably rate about a 5 on a 1-10 scale.  There is nothing around and it is pretty beat up.  But it is for sale, wouldn't you want a 22 site campground in the middle of nowhere?  Me neither.  Oh well, the price is not too bad and it is only one night.

I am going to make spaghetti tonight.  It should be nice and warm on our tummies.  Other than that we won't be doing much; I'm certainly not going outside in the cold wind.  Here are some pictures of the campground.  I'll write more later if anything happens.
