Catching Up

Sunday - Wednesday, Jun 5 - 8

Sunday, June 5

Well, it is still hot. We aren’t in a hurry today as check-in at the next campground is 3:00 PM. We just hung around in the air conditioner until it was time to head out.

The drive to Laclede, MO was easy. Just a couple of turns and we were there, about 110 miles. We did stop to fuel up outside of Kansas City and a stop at a Walmart to pick up a couple of items.

When we reached the campground we unhooked and I drove around to find our site. Bill located the water hookup and went to fill our fresh water tank. We are at the Pershing State Park and these campsites only have electricity. We need to use our water tank, which is something we don’t do too often. In fact, when we first got hooked up it didn’t appear to be working at all! Not sure what happened but it soon was pumping water just fine. We also have 30 amps so if I want the air conditioner on I can’t use the microwave or toaster oven. So I have to turn the air off to cook. Guess I should plan meals that use the stove top. Either that or Bill is taking we out to eat!

I contacted my Aunt and Uncle who live in this area to make arrangements to visit them tomorrow. I have to remember my camera. I don’t know if any other relatives will be there or not.

So that is all, we are just trying to stay cool. Tomorrow is suppose to be 95 degrees and high humidity. No pictures today. Have fun.

Monday, June 6

Happy Birthday Lydia! We will see you in a couple of days.

Visiting was the order of the day today. The main reason we are in this area of Missouri is to visit my Aunt and Uncle. They live out in the country far enough that my GPS didn’t recognize their address and neither did Yahoo maps. I had to call them when we got near town and I got a good enough signal to get detailed instructions. Just a couple of miles down the road we were on, turn at the cemetery and then after the while church. I like those kind of directions.

We spent a number of hours discussing family and what we have been doing. It was a very nice visit. It didn’t feel as hot there as it is in the campground. Yesterday was my Aunt’s birthday so it was nice to be able to wish her Happy Birthday in person. We all decided to drive into town to have dinner. I tried to pay for their meal but they wouldn’t let me. We ate at the Golden Corral buffet. I tried not to eat too much but it was good.

We got back to our rig around 7:00 PM and just relaxed for the rest of the day. There are a lot of bugs around here. When I tried to open the windows for evening air they were doing their best to get inside. Some made it so we spent some time killing them. There are also lightening bugs that put on a show when it is dark.

That is all for now.

Today was devoted to exploring the area.  Bill has heard many stories about the towns around here and wanted to see them.  First we drove to Marceline, MO to visit the Walt Disney Museum.  Walt always called Marceline his "home town" even though he only lived here for 5 years when he was young.  He always said it was the only time he was allowed to be a kid.

The museum is in the old train station.  I thought I remembered it being a white house but turns out I was probably remembering the park where the swimming pool was.

When we finished driving around Marceline we headed to Triplett, where my father grew up.  His family did live in Marceline while he was in high school.  The GPS found the "center" of town but nothing looked like I remembered.  I called Dad and he gave us turn by turn instructions to find town.  I was so busy looking and talking on the phone I forgot to take pictures!  Anyway, there isn't much left of town no.  The sign says 64 people live here but I bet that changes soon.

Back at the rig we just relaxed and prepared to move to Branson tomorrow.

Wednesday, June 8

The sun comes up pretty early so I am usually awake before 7:00 AM.  I may not get up but I am awake.  Since today was a travel day with about 250 miles I went ahead and got up.  I am happy to report we made out just fine with our water supply.  We still have half a tank of fresh water and the grey water is below half.  Guess we can boondock if we have to.  I wouldn't want to be without electricity in this heat to run the air conditioner.

The drive down was pretty boring.  The only thing to break it up was looking for a Super Walmart to do so grocery shopping before we hit Branson.  It seems none of them were on the road we were on so we went ahead into the campground.  After we got parked and set up we drove over to the Jubilee grocery store.  I now have another card for another chain to carry.  Bill actually requested something special for dinner so I picked up the fixings for that.  We will have it tomorrow.

It is still hot down in the southern part of the state.  I am going to make Bill put the awnings out in the morning since we will be here for two weeks.  It will help the refrigerator to stay cooler.  Our friends arrive tomorrow.  I am looking forward to spending time with them and seeing some shows here in Branson.

That is all for now.
