Heflin, AL

Wed - Thurs, Sept 26 - 27, 2012

We are in Heflin, AL and are spending two nights at the Cane 9 Creek Campground.  It is a Passport America park but I had to pay a $5 early check-in fee, but only to Passport America members.  I forgot we would be crossing into Central time today so we arrived at the campground around 1:00 PM.  I guess if you get in before 3:00 PM (check-in time) they charge.  First time I have ever had to do that.  This made the park $17.90 a night.  It is an OK park for a day or two.  There really isn't much to do in town but we needed a spot to hang for 2 days.

We decided to go into town and have linner.  A local BBQ place was recommended by the park.  The food was not fancy but was good.  We drove through town a bit and then stopped at the Piggly Wiggly (that is such a funny name for a store) to pick up a couple of things.

Tomorrow we don't have to get up early, just relax for the day.  I will have to see if there is something in the area to do.

Oh, this morning we once again had the stop engine light come on.  This time we found an indicator that the coolant was low.  We drove over to the Pilot fuel station and picked up a gallon of coolant.  Once we put that in the light went out and everything seems to be working fine now.  Why didn't that message show before?  Hmmm.

On Thursday we turned out to be the only people in the park except for the permenant sites.  The owner should have been happy we were there and not charged us for being early.  I will be putting this place on our do not come back list.

We decided to take a drive through the Talladega National Forest to pass some time.  It was a nice drive and a way to spend the afternoon.  Better than spending the time shopping.  Anyway, we had a nice day and will pull out tomorrow morning.

Here are some pics I took -
