Demopolis, AL

Friday - Saturday, Sept 28 - 29, 2012

Today we arrived at the Foscue Creek COE Campground in Demopolis, AL.  Demopolis is a small town but they are big enough to have a Super Walmart.  Not much else is in town.  The campground is very nice.  I like Corps of Engineer campgrounds as they are half price for anyone with a National Access Pass or Senior Pass.  That means we are paying $11 a night in a nice campground with full hookups on the water.  Well, there is a creek that is behind us and winds throughout the campground.  I will take pictures tomorrow.

When we pulled in a neighbor warned us that everyone has been having trouble with sugar ants.  Didn't we leave those behind in NC?  So Bill sprayed everything outside, I made sure nothing was open inside and we are hoping for the best.

We did make a quick trip to the Walmart to pick up a couple of things.  I wanted a nice bottle of wine for the next few days.  I have run out of my 2 Buck Chuck from the open house we had in March.  We also took the car for a quick trip through the car wash.  Road dust had accumulated.

I fixed the leftover sloppy joes and mac and cheese for dinner.  Two meals for one night of cooking.  All I had to do was reheat.  Then we watched a bit of TV and went to bed.  There are no outside lights here so it was nice and dark.  Just the way I like it.

On Saturday we both slept in a bit.  We don't have anything planned for today.  Just a nice restful day to stay for the weekend.  Everyone around us is displaying Alabama (roll tide, roll) flags.  I imagine when the game is on Saturday everyone will be watching it.

We had to go back to Walmart to pick up some ant spray.  We used up what we had spraying around here.  We were lucky and didn't get any inside the rig.

I fixed some thick pork chops, that I had, in the crockpot.  They came out more like pork roast.  I added potatoes, carrots, celery, onion and cream of mushroom soup.  The flavor was good but there was something missing.  I probably should have browned the chops before putting them in the crock.

We really didn't do much today.  It was cloudy and overcast.  We did take a drive over to the lock and dam that this campground is part of.  I didn't have my camera with me then.  When we got back to the campground I took some pictures of the sites and the creek.  Here they are -

It started raining during the evening and kept up all night long. We didn't have any leaks this time. We got out early on Sunday as the rain stopped for a bit and it was just enough to get everything ready to move.  It rained all day and all the way across Mississippi.  We are spending one night, maybe two, at the Ameristar Casino RV Park in Vicksburg.

That is all for now.  Bye
