A Cruise to the Caribbean part 2

Our first stop was Nassau in the Bahamas.  This island used to be part of the British Empire but they became an independant nation in the 1970's.  Most of what we saw was a couple of forts on the island.  We also were driven around to some of the newer parts of the island.  Gas in these places is certainly expensive.  The guide said the price here was over $6 a gallon.  They drive on the left side of the street so that was weird to be on what we consider the "wrong" side of the road.  Here are a couple of pictures of the forts.

The next island was St. Thomas, US Virgin Isles.  This is an American territory.  They have a representative in Congress but cannot vote for President.  They pay taxes like the rest of us.  Our tour took us around the island.  There are many poor people here and everyone depends on tourists for money.  I didn't particularly like this tour.  I thought the tour guide was bored and didn't care if we had a good time.  Here are some pictures I took there.

Our third stop was San Juan, Puerto Rico.  We had a very interesting bus driver.  He was very talkative.  We saw a rain forest as well as an old fort.  After the tour we tried to do a little shopping but couldn't find many shops.  Guess we were in the wrong area so we headed over to Senor Frogs for a bite and some fun.

Our last stop was an island called Grand Turk.  There is some who think this was where Christopher Columbus actually landed in 1492.  It was the smallest island we visited.  They farm sea salt here.  They also have donkeys and goats roaming around the island.  There used to be an American sub base here and they picked up some of the astronauts from the sea.  We also snorkled while we were here.  And we also drank too much rum punch and danced on the boat on our way back.  That was really fun.  I took some pictures with an underwater camera but won't get those back until next week.  I will post those pictures then, if any turned out.

Here is a sight you don't see very often -

What are they?  Bill's legs!!!  He doesn't wear shorts so his legs only appear when he wears a bathing suit!

Part 3 will be a recap of the cruise.
