Rodeo

July 21 - 23, 2013  Sunday - Tuesday

Sunday was a recovery day from Saturday so we didn't do much.  We did pick up a couple of things at the commissary as it is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday was our day for the rodeo.  We got up early and had a good breakfast before heading over to Frontier Park.  We decided to park on one of the city streets around the park instead of paying for the shuttle or parking in the pay lots.  We found a spot that was only a couple of blocks from the entrance.  Some people were letting you park on their lawn for anywhere from $10 to $20.  Kids were also selling water and soda's.  Hey, if you have to be inconvenienced with everyone parking in your neighborhood you might as well make a couple of bucks off of it.

We walked around and looked at more of the displays and sale booths before heading over to the arena and finding our seats.  Before the actual rodeo started they had kids riding in barrel races.  We saw a few 5 - 7 year old kids riding.  Some were very good and one poor kid couldn't get his horse to run.  The kid was only 5 and the horse was a lot bigger than him.  He gave it a good try though!  This kid was really good and he was about 7.

After this they had a group that rode in formation.  I believe they were the Laramie County Fair riders.

Next came a group of riders who carry the banners of the various sponsors of the rodeo and Cheyenne Frontier Days.

Soon the opening parade started with a few groups.  Then it was time for the rodeo.  First came bull riding.

Then calf wrestling -

Then the bareback bronc riding -

We stayed for about 3 hours and watched the various events.  One cute thing they did was a pony race.  They brought out a mama and baby horse and had the babies run to their mama's.

After we left the rodeo we wandered around to the Indian Village and Old West Town.  I also bought a couple of shirts for me.  They had a bunch of the cotton sleeveless shirts that I like,  We decided to go to one of the restaurants in town for lunch/dinner instead of eating at the rodeo.  Then we headed home, tired but happy.  I really enjoyed my first rodeo.

Tuesday was a recovery day from Monday so we just hung around the rig all day.  I did a little laundry to keep up with it.

That is all.  Enjoy the pictures from the rodeo -
