That was exciting

July 26, 2013 Friday

I am going to put events in reverse order today.  Why?  Because we had a lot of excitement in the evening!  I was preparing dinner around 5:30 or so when we heard a siren.  Hmm, wonder what that is?  It kept going and going.  Bill walked outside and noticed a really black sky.  Many other people were out and looking up too.  I turned on the weather radio and it announced severe thunderstorms with hail and wind up to 60 MPH in our county.  Soon the siren started up again and an announcement came on to seek shelter!  There was a tornado warning on base.  As with all campgrounds the shelter is the bathhouse.  We decided to put the slides in and lower the TV antenna then headed up to the bathhouse.  Many of the other campers joined us there.  We stood around for about 30-45 minutes before the all clear came.  We did get a little rain and some pea sized hail.  After we got back to the rig Bill talked to the next door neighbor who was in town when the warning came.  He said the area by the mall and Walmart was flooded and they had hail that was between golf balls and softballs.  We were certainly lucky.  By this time the skies had cleared up and we went about finishing dinner, watching TV and then going to bed.

Earlier in the day we had gone out to breakfast and then headed over to Terry Bison Ranch to check it out.  The ranch has an RV park, cabins for rent, a restaurant, a train ride, animals, a trail ride and other things.  We decided to take the train ride around the grounds.  We also checked out the various animals they had in pens around the office.  The RV park was nice.  It is a Passport America park.  Our friends Terry & Lydia have stayed in the park before.

Here is the train we rode -

It is a 45 minute trip around part of the ranch,  The ranch is a working ranch where they raise bison (or buffalo).  They are the second biggest producers of bison meat in the US.  Would you believe Ted Turner is the biggest?

The ranch is part in Wyoming and part in Colorado.  The train goes through both states, making it the only privately owned interstate railway in the world.

During a portion of the ride the train stops and they herd some of the bison over to the train.  They sell bags of feed so you can feed the bison.  Did you know that bison cannot see to the side or up?  They can only see straight ahead and down.  Because of that you have to get the food directly in front of them before you can feed them.

After the train ride was over we walked around the animal pens.  They had an ostrich, llamas, goats, cattle, camels, burros and horses.  This little fellow was born on June 21st -

Check out the slideshow to see the other animals -

We spent a couple of hours there and had a good time.  On the way back to the base we stopped at the Sierra Trading Company outlet store.  We did buy one little thing but that was all.  After that we headed home.

So that was our exciting day.  I hope you had a good one.  Tomorrow we are going to the Toby Keith concert at the fairgrounds.
