July 9 - 10, 2013 Tuesday - Wednesday
I got a call from the car repair place and the part is in for my car. I then called Enterprise to rent a car. They won't have anything until around 2:00 PM today. We hung around the rig and Bill washed one side. Afterward we went and picked up the rental. We are now driving a Chevy Captiva. It is a small SUV. Originally I had hoped to only need it for 1 or 2 days. Turns out I need it for longer. More on that in a minute.
After getting the car we headed down to the repair place. The mechanic said it wouldn't take long to put the new part in. I reminded him that we were leaving it overnight so that they could actually hear the problem. I also showed him the video so he could hear the noise. Yep, he said, we have a problem. After that we drove into the downtown area and stopped to check out a western store. Didn't find anything. I am trying to decide if I want to buy a cowboy hat or not. Probably not as I don't think I would wear it that much. I did pick up a schedule for events and we spent some time in the evening deciding what we wanted to do when at the Rodeo.
I worked on where we are going after here for a bit in the afternoon. I think I have our plans set up for August. Of course those are subject to change.
On Wednesday morning we headed over to the Post Office on base to pick up our mail. We then headed back to the rig to spend some time going through it. I always wind up having to make some phone calls to various places when we get our mail and today was no different. Once I got all of that taken care of we headed out to the hospital so I could get my blood work done. One more thing to strike off the list.
After the hospital we headed out and decided to have pizza for lunch. We found a local place called Parkway Pizza. They sell pizza by the slice. We each had 2 and split a salad and soda. It was thin crust pizza but it was good. We also checked out a local RV place. They didn't have any motorhomes. just trailers and 5th wheels. We didn't find anything in the parts department we needed either.
Late in the afternoon I called the car repair place and they said the pulley part took care of most of the noise but it still squealed when you started the car with the air conditioner turned on. They investigated some more and found that the air compressor needed to be replaced. Bummer! Turns out this isn't a cheap fix. I was pretty sure the air conditioner had something to do with the noise. Oh well. The car is a 2004 and has over 97,000 driven miles on it. We have also towed it for about 50,000 miles. We haven't had a lot of trouble with it and we knew sooner or later we would have to put some real money into it. We should get it back by Friday. I called and extended the rental. Now that we know it will be a day or so we have decided to take the rental to Colorado and go to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Might as well enjoy having the newer car for a few days.
So that is all for today. Hope you had a good day.
