July 27, 2013 Saturday
Our day was pretty routine. We did a little grocery shopping but not much. I fixed an early dinner of steak and baked potatoes so that I could get everything cleaned up before we left. Around 5:30 PM we headed over to the bus parking lot to head over to the fairgrounds. Tonight we are going to see Toby Keith in concert. We have learned that we really don't need to stand in line to go into the concert as we have reserved seats. Each concert we have been arriving later and later. I bought some baby jeans with a big buckle for Rory (the box will be on its way Monday) and got a bag of kettle corn for munching during the concert. We walked around a bit, the crowd was really big tonight as it is the last full day of Frontier Days and the big concert. We finally went in to our sets. It has been raining off and on all afternoon and was sprinkling when we went in. Luckily, it held off during the concert but it was windy and cold.
The opening act was Joe Nichols. He did a good job and we enjoyed his singing. He really was singing not yelling like some of the acts have been.
There was a bit of a break between acts and we took advantage of the time to stand and stretch. Those metal benches get hard quickly. Soon the main act of the evening came on stage - TOBY KEITH!!!! He put on a really good show and we enjoyed it very much. He played for a long time. It was 11:45 when we got in line for the bus trip back to the car and 12:15 AM when we got back to the rig.
One thing we have noticed is that there is a lot of beer sold and drank at Cheyenne Frontier Days. Both during the concert and just around the fair. At $5.50 a bottle they must make a fortune off of beer alone! We had a soda during the show and it was $4. The price of all the food is really, really high but I guess you expect that at this type of thing.
The volunteer group that puts this on every year really has things organized and running smoothly. My hat is off to them. It probably helps that most of the people around here are really polite, too.
So that is all. Frontier Days are over. We will be hanging around until August 1st and then we start traveling again. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
