Visiting Banff

Sept 4, 2013  Wednesday

We discovered yesterday that there is a train track right behind the stream that runs behind us.  The only good part is that they do not blow their whistle every time they passed.  I heard one train go by just as we were going to bed but I didn't hear any more.

We have to sit by the office to get on the internet.  The repeater is behind the office so it does not extend to our rig.  Bummer.  So after getting dressed this morning I walked over and checked my email before leaving for the day.  Bill was going to check his too but he disappeared and I got tired of waiting for him so I shut down.

Today we are going to drive over to Banff and check out the town and area.  Tomorrow we are going to Lake Louise.  Anyway, we paid for our annual passes, since we will be here long enough to make that cheaper, and drove into the park.  (BTW - we might pass our passes on to someone who is coming this way next year as they are good for a year).

Our first stop was Lake Minnewanka.  It is the biggest lake in Banff National Park and is very pretty.

We thought about taking a boat ride but decided not to.  We also saw a squirrel and some goats.

Next we drove the loop over to Two Jack Lake.

The last lake on the loop was Johnson Lake

Soon we were heading into the town of Banff to have lunch and to walk around.  We decided to have lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory.  I know, we have them at home but I really like them.  it is also going to be our dinner.  After a nice leisurely lunch we walked around a bit and tried to spend some money but no such luck.

We drove Tunnel Mountain drive thinking that it went through a mountain.  Nope, originally when the railroad was being built they were going to build a tunnel but decided against it but the name stuck.

We also stopped and visited some Hoodoo's along the road.

About 3:00 we headed back to the rig for the day.  We are going to relax the rest of the day.

Oh, just for info, my DirecTv works up here.  It was able to locate the satellites with no problem.  Yeah!  We have TV for the evenings.

Here are all the pictures I took.

That was a chipmunk not a squirrel.
