Saturday and Sunday, June 21, 22, 2014
Saturday was a driving day and we spent the night at Creekside RV in Elm Creek, NE. It isn't a fabulous campground but it had what we needed, full hookups for $15 a night. Thanks to Passport America. We took a drive to the closest big town so that we could hit the Walmart for a few things. We decided to head to Sapp Bros fuel stop in the morning to fill the RV and also to have breakfast. The price of diesel was low there, a large number of big rigs fuel here so the diesel is turned over a lot, and there is plenty of parking for the RV.
Back at the rig I made chicken marsala for dinner. It was good and easy to make.
About 9:00 PM it started to rain and it did not stop until about 2:00 AM or later. It woke me up a few times when it got to raining hard.
I forgot to take pictures of this campground. I would stop here again for an overnight stay but it certainly isn't a place I would want to stay for long.
Sunday we drove the 7 miles down the road to Sapp Bros. It looks like the truckers like to stop here for breakfast as there were certainly more rigs than we did yesterday. We got fuel and got parked and went in for breakfast. The food was good and plentiful. We won't be stopping for lunch today!
The drive to Offutt AFB wasn't too bad but to get to the Famcamp you have to drive through some residential streets. There are a number of large trees that could use some trimming. There was nothing you could do to avoid them. We would come back to the campground but only if we were staying more than one night. After we got set up we drove over to the PX to look around. The base is big and is part of the Strategic Air Command. Since it is Sunday there isn't a lot of activity. There probably will be tomorrow. On our way back to the campground we stopped for a quick ice cream at the DQ. We also checked out a gas station for the possibility of using it tomorrow. We are almost to Winnebago. We should easily be there early on Wednesday.
The clouds have started to roll in and I think we are in for more rain today. I have the weather radio set and ready to go. As long as it stops before we plan on leaving tomorrow.
So here are a couple of pictures of the park at Offutt.
There has been some work going on at the house in Yorba Linda. The backyard has been getting a major overhaul. It is something we should have done a long time ago but Aimee spearheaded this and it looks really nice. Here is a slide show of what has taken place -
