We are finally taking off for our travels. I am really going to miss the kids and Rory. It is so nice to be involved with him as he grows. I think we have gotten closer to Aimee during this time also. She is working hard to get some work done in the backyard so that Rory will have a nice outside place to play. Here is a picture we took during our last visit.
Can't wait to see them in August, when they come out to North Carolina to visit.
Our first stop on our journey is the monthly Camping Squares campout. We are at the Californian RV in Acton this month. The park is very nice, even though the sites are a little narrow. With all 3 of our slides out we just fit on the pad. It was hot and windy too. We arrived a day before everyone else, on Tuesday, and the rest trickled in over the rest of the week. It was an odd campout as there were only rigs in camp. Most of these rigs were headed somewhere else after the campout is over.
On Wednesday night we went out to dinner with the folks who arrived that day. We headed to a place called the Sweetwater Café but when we got there it was closed! The store next door called the owner and found out they decided not to open. Luckily there was a little café/bakery just down the street called Monami. They served Italian food. I had a dish called chicken Milano, which was grilled chicken breast with a sauce made of Madera wine and brown sugar. Tasted a bit like maple syrup. I did enjoy it. Bill and pasta and meatballs and his serving was so big he ate his fill and we both had plenty to share later in the week for dinner.
On Friday we went to a local orchard for cherry picking. They had both Bing and Rainer cherries. We only picked Bings. At $3.75 a pound it was a pretty good deal. We got around 3 lbs.
Janie and I were in charge of the Saturday breakfast so I had French Toast left from last month that I had frozen. I heated that up and we had some fresh fruit to go with it. Good breakfast. We didn't have our regular potluck due to the small number of people (2 of the rigs left Saturday morning), so we decided to go out to Famous Dave's BBQ for dinner. Turned out that only 4 couples went as 2 couples were at a local urgent care. One of our friends had some trouble with her leg and another couple took them to the doctor. We had a good dinner though and our friend is in good shape after getting some antibiotics.
Sunday morning saw most everyone packing up to leave. We are heading to June Lake for the week and one of the couples is following us. The tale will be in the next post.
