Travels to June Lake

June 8, 2014.  Sunday

We were up bright and early and ready to get on the road.  Rick and Janie are following us up to June Lake.  Hope everything goes well.  We got on the road about 8:30 AM and things looked good.   We stopped at a rest area just south of Lone Pine to take their dog out and to grab a quick bite.  As we were walking to the bathroom someone asked who owned the Endeavor.  Turns out they were dragging their tail pipe and muffler!  Bill and Rick tied it up with a rope and we got back on the road.  After a bit Bill started worrying about the rope burning through.  I told him that I had a metal coat hanger and they could use that.  We found a wide spot on the road and stopped.  Yep, the rope was burning through.  They replaced it and we were on our way again.  In Bishop we stopped for gas and checked it.  Everything was still working fine.  After fueling up we headed up the mountain.  We saw another of our couples off on the side of the road so we pulled in to see if they needed any help.  They were just unhooking their car so they could drive it up the Sherman Grade.  We have enough pull to leave our car attached.  It was in the 90's up here.  As we got further up the grade it cooled off a bit.  We all made it up the hill and into June Lake.  Here are a couple of pictures I took from the rig.

As you can see, there is still some snow on the ground up here.
Not as much as other years so maybe this year we can make it to the Devil's Postpile.

We are camped at the June Lake RV park and Lodge.

The two couples who came up on Saturday had dinner for those of us who came up on Sunday.  They made jambalaya and it was pretty good.  I am not a big seafood eater but there was a bunch of other stuff in it.  We also had margaritas.  Those hit us pretty hard as we are just getting used to the altitude.  We are at 8000 feet.  It is going to take a day or two to get used to that.

Here are all the pictures I took -
