The Grand Ole Opry

Tuesday July 29, 2014

We decided that we would go to the Loveless Cafe for breakfast today so we got up and got dressed and were off.  When we got there a large group of people were on the porch so we thought there would be a long wait.  Turned out that they were all together so we were seated right away.  I don't know if our tastes have changed or if something there changed but I just wasn't as thrilled with the meal as I used to be.  I had eggs, sausage and home fries.  The eggs were fine but the sausage was overcooked and the home fries were really just squares of potato that were deep fried with a season salt.  Even their world famous biscuits weren't that great.  Bill had biscuits and gravy which we weren't impressed with.  The gravy was too thin.  I think we got a better breakfast at Knott's Berry Farm.

We then drove back into Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry House.  By the way, the Opry Mills shopping center which was closed after the 2010 flood has reopened.  All the restaurants and stores seem to be open.
At the Opry House we bought tickets for the backstage tour.  We have seen many performances at the Opry but have never taken the tour.  Today was the day.  We had about 10 minutes to wait before the tour started.  It was a very interesting tour.  There were some videos to watch and a lot of history was talked about.

We got to see the performers entry -

And many backstage areas.  We saw the Opry members mailboxes and plaques as well as some of the dressing rooms they use.

Then we got to go onstage!  You see where the wooden circle from the Ryman is as well as the band areas.  You will notice some benches on the back of the stage.  Friends and family of the performers get to sit here.

We even got our picture taken standing on stage-

The tour takes between 45-55 minutes and it was very informative.  Our tour guide was great.

After we finished at the Opry House we took a quick drive to Camping World to pick up a couple things then headed home.

We were able to visit with Aimee and Rory using Facetime.  We have never tried that before and it was fun.  We will have to do that a few more times while we are traveling.  Can't wait to see them in a few weeks.

So that was our day.  We had fun and got to do something we have never done before.  I recommend the tour if you are ever here.
