Thursday - Friday, July 24-25, 2014
Thursday morning we were not going to get up and get going early but it always seems that when we are not in a hurry we get up early. So we packed everything up and got on the road. We drove a short distance (about 145 miles) to Millington, TN, which is just above Memphis. We are staying on the Navy Support base there. Bill was actually stationed on this base years ago when he was going through electronics school. Nothing on the base is like he remembers it. We even drove through the town of Millington and he says nothing looks familiar there, either. Even the hospital that Stormy was born in is gone. It is now either a prison or a college, Bill isn't exactly sure of the location.
Friday we decided to go into Memphis and stroll Beale street. We didn't go until later in the afternoon as the street doesn't really get going until late. Unfortunately, we are not nighttime people anymore so we won't be hanging out with the "cool" crowd. We walked up and down Beale and then decided to have dinner at Flynn's Superior Bar and cafe. We both had "wet" ribs and they were good. They were served with french fries, cole slaw, and beans. I don't like beans so I substituted them for hush puppies. Everything was good. The guy they had playing the blues was really good too. I would go back to this place.
After dinner we strolled down to the Beale Street Landing. I thought it was going to be more like the riverwalk in San Antonio but it was just a place to walk along the river. I took some pictures there. They did have a water feature that the kids all enjoyed. It was about 90 degrees today.
Here are my pictures -
