New Orleans, Day 3

Friday, 5/29/2015
Belle Chasse, LA

The others wanted to go into town today and ride the tour bus again.  They also wanted to walk through a cemetery in the Garden District, so they left around 9:30.  Bill and I decided to do things on our own.  I have a blister on my foot from yesterday and didn't feel like doing all the walking.

The group first went over to ITT (the ticket office on base) and got us tickets for a murder mystery dinner tonight.  The original price was $10 a ticket but since it was the last day they gave us a discount and we got them at $5!  Score!  More on this in a bit,

Bill and I decided to head over to the PX and he got a hair cut.  I tried but the beauty salon person (yes, only 1) was on vacation.  I will have to wait.  We filled the car up with gas and drove around town a bit.  We located a car wash.  Even though we have been having rain the car still gets dirty.  Then we stopped at a veggie stand that advertised Creole tomatoes.  We have seen a few of these advertised and wondered what a Creole tomato was.  Well, it is just a regular tomato grown here!  Suckered us in.  I bought a few to share with Lydia and Janie later today.  Then we returned to the rig.  I planned on doing laundry but just as we got back the skies opened up and poured.  It rained for about 2 hours and it rained very heavily.  One of the 5th wheels in the park had their awning out but didn't have it tipped so the weight of the water broke it.  I finally did get to do my laundry later in the day.

After the others got back we sat around for a bit and then made our way over to the murder mystery.  It was being held in a building close to the campground.  The theme was the 1970's and a rock show.  They had various people in the crowd be characters and Rick and Janie were chosen to play parts.  They both did quite well.  We really weren't sure who the killer was so we decided to say it was Janie!  We made up a story about why and how she did it and it turns out we were right!  We were laughing so hard when they announced we had won.  We got a certificate for it -

Notice our group name, The Donner Party.  They announced the last place group first and we were just happy that wasn't us but to be announced as the winners was hysterical!  And we hit the nail on the head and got the reasons exactly right!  Guess we are not so dumb after all.

Oh, we did have a nice dinner before the show.  It was a buffet and we had salad, spaghetti and meatballs (there were really good), a shrimp pasta, a chicken pasta, and various desserts including mini cheesecakes and bread pudding.  All of this and the show for $5 for us.  Will definitely do it again.

After the show we headed back to our rigs and got ready for bed.  We don't stay outside much at night as there are a lot of mosquitoes here.  We all have bites to prove it.  That is all for now.  More tomorrow.
