New Orleans, LA Day 2

Thursday, 5/28/2015
New Orleans, LA

9:30 came early today as we all met for our adventures for the day.  We had met a nice family that is staying at the Famcamp and Terry arranged for them to walk the dogs while we were gone.  That means that we were able to stay out longer than normal.  The family has 3 young children and they also have dogs so they know how to care for animals.  The father is active duty Navy and the mom had also spent time in the Navy.

We headed over to the ferry parking lot instead of driving into the city ourselves.  We had a bit of an issue following the directions we got from the office but we eventually found the parking lot we were looking for.  It was $5 to park each car and the ferry cost $2 for those of us under 65 and $1 for those over.  We found the booth for the hop on, hop off bus.  We paid and got on the bus.

Soon we were in the French Quarter.  We did stay on one stop too long but soon found a cafe to have lunch in.  I had a mufallata sandwich (which is basically an Italian meat sandwich with an olive dressing.)  The others had various sandwiches.  Soon we were walking down the road and checking out the stores.  We stopped at Cafe Du Monde for beignets and drinks.

By this time we were stuffed and decided to walk to Jackson Square and Bourbon Street.

We weren't impressed with Bourbon Street and soon made our way back to the bus.  We decided to ride the bus throughout the entire tour.  We were able to get a 3 day pass for $36 each.  Good deal.  It was a double decker bus and we rode on the top.  The temperature was in the high 70's but the humidity was 100% or more.

While riding through the Garden District you could see beads in the trees and on the electric wires.  These are leftovers from various parades.

When we got back to the pier area we got off the bus and headed back to the ferry.  We were really tired by this time.  None of us were interested in dinner so we got together for drinks and talking between the Kinkelaar's rigs and the Moore's.  Some of the neighbors here in the park joined us.  We skipped dinner in favor of drinks.  One of the neighbors has an Entegra 45 foot coach and let us tour it.  The layout is similar to ours, just longer.  The family that was watching the dogs also joined us.  We had a nice time visiting with these people.  After the sun went down the insects came out and I came in.  A great time was had by all.  We plan on heading back into town tomorrow for a bit.  Here are all the pictures I took.
