Jacksonville Naval Station
Jacksonville, FL

We are slowly moving up the coast.  We drove about 170 miles to Jacksonville Naval Station in Jacksonville, FL today.  The drive was mostly on I 95.  We did stop at a Flying J for fuel and decided to go into the Denny's for lunch.  Turns out both of us decided to have breakfast instead.  Back on the road and we got to the base with no problem.  The driving instructions on Military Campgrounds were spot on.  The GPS would have taken us into the wrong gate.  Since 9/11 many of the bases have closed certain gates or put barriers in front of them.  That forces RV's to use the commercial gate or a specific gate without the barriers.  The GPS has no way of knowing that so I always verify directions with the website.  At this base you don't check in at the campground but at the auto center.  The ladies there were very nice and helpful.

It rained on us as we were driving up the road but did stop before we got into the base.  It did start sprinkling as we were getting setup so Bill just did the water and electric.  The campground here is nice.  Like many bases, the grass needs mowing but that is one thing that gets dropped with budget cuts.

We didn't do much the rest of the day except to research what we want to do for the remaining days.  We did head over to the commissary to pick up some ant traps.  We got hit by ants in Cocoa Beach.  They are small and seem to want greasy things like butter instead of sugar or sweet.  Hopefully they will disappear soon.  It was fun trying to find the PX and Commissary since there is a lot of construction around them but we finally made it.

That was all for today, tomorrow and adventure.
