Cornersville, TN Day 4

Saturday, 8/29/2015
Cornersville, TN

We decided to drive a few miles up the highway to the town of Columbia to check out the family home of President James K Polk.  He was the 11th President and served from 1845 to 1849.  He died 90 days after leaving office from cholera in Nashville, TN.  The home he retired into is no longer standing.  The only house President Polk ever lived in, besides the White House, is the family home in Columbia, TN.  The furnishings in this house are all pieces that were owned by the President or the family.  Most came from his house in Nashville.

He only served one term.  When he was first elected he said he had a select number of things to accomplish and he had accomplished all of them before re-election.  He brought Texas, Oregon, and the California territory into the US during his term.

There is a portrait of him just as he took office and one at the end of his term and they look like the same person 20 years apart.  That is what the Presidency will do to you.

It started to rain as we were leaving and it kept up most of the rest of the day.

After the house we drove over to a restaurant that was recommended by the lady at the campground.  It is called Marcy Jo's and it is in Pottsville, TN!  It is a breakfast/lunch place and we were not impressed.  They had a very limited menu and it was just average.  I had a bowl of their chicken nacho soup and didn't like it at all.  The rest was just OK.

Back to the rig to watch the Little League World Series.  The Pennsylvania team won the US Championship.  Tomorrow they play Japan for the World title.

That is all for now.  Have a good day.
