Elk Park, NC Day 3

Elk Park, NC

Today we plan on going to The Blowing Rock and I am taking the long way around.  I want to see the road we will be driving out on and this will give us an opportunity to drive park of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  This means we didn't leave until after lunch.  We both had our leftovers from last night.

The drive was nice and we located a place to stop on the way out and hook up the tow car.  We don't want to do it in the campground as the exit here is really steep.  There is a church with a nice flat parking lot just before we turn off of Curtis Creek Rd, which is the road the campground is located on.

The drive on the Parkway was nice.  There weren't a lot of cars and they have a lot of pullouts for viewing.  Here are a couple of pictures -

We finally arrived at The Blowing Rock.  It looked really familiar to me but I can't find that we have ever been here before.  The story of The Blowing Rock is that two Indians from different tribes fell in love.  When they couldn't be together the brave jumped off the rock.  The maiden prayed for the spirits to bring him back and the wind from the canyon blew him back up to her.  It is a natural phenomenon that the wind does blow up at this location.  There are even times you can see it snow up instead of down.

You walk around the area and it is cute.  This is a privately owned place and they charge $6 for seniors to visit.  Probably not worth that but we did enjoy it.

The drive back to the RV was uneventful.  I did stop at one of the many fruit stands and got some peaches and tomatoes.  Yummy.

I made steak and baked potatoes for dinner and served some of the tomatoes with it.

Here are all the pictures I took today
