Pigeon Forge, TN Day 2

Monday, 8/17/2015
Pigeon Forge, TN

We weren't in a really big hurry this morning but we were out before 10:00 to head over to Dollywood.  We would have all day today to explore.  I really like these parks that give you part of an afternoon and the next day for one price.  We saw a number of shows but didn't ride any rides.  I did have one picked out that wasn't fast and didn't get you wet but it was closed when we got there.  We used to love the roller coasters but we have gotten old and don't ride them anymore.

Our first act was the Smokey Mountain String Band.  They were very good.  They perform in a gazebo on Main Street.  They mostly performed bluegrass music.

Next we went to see the show "Live at the Back Porch".  This is a group that sings and dances to old and new country music.  One thing I will say about the singers at Dollywood is that they can all sing.

We walked through a number of stores but didn't find much we couldn't do without.  We decided to have lunch at Miss Lillian's Chicken House.  It is a buffet meal and was pretty good.  The salad bar could have used a few more choices but the chicken, gravy and potatoes were good.

Our next stop was to check out the wild birds area.  These are birds that cannot be released to the wild because of injury or people imprinting.

American Bald Eagle

Golden Eagle

Crested Caracara

We walked around one of the lands that had a number of water rides.  There was one area for the kids -

And a family ride.  As you rode through the ride you got to shoot water at the bystanders and at targets.  But, the bystanders could hoot back at you so everyone got wet.  This felt good in the heat.

We walked through some more stores and things then realized that we could catch the Kingdom Heirs.  They are a Southern Gospel quartet.  They have been performing at Dollywood for 30 years!  Some of the members have changed over the years but they still sound good.

Our last show was the Dreamland Drive-In.  They did a little story of a Drive-In from the 50's to today and sang songs from each decade.  This group wasn't the best group of singers but they were OK.  I didn't get pictures.

While we were in the show it rained pretty hard.  It had tapered off before we came out and we headed to the entrance.

After we returned to our car we headed to Walmart to get my drugs.  Then we headed back home.  Because we had such a big lunch we had soup for dinner.

Tomorrow we are staying home and doing stuff around the rig.  Hope you liked the pictures I posted.
