Hurricane Mills, TN Day 3

Saturday, 5/05/2015
Hurricane Mills, TN

Today is the day we are really here.  The Loretta Lynn/Crystal Gayle concert is tonight.  First we have to get through the day.

The neighbors are just as annoying as ever.  The older couple on the right decided to tie their dog to our BBQ!  Any poop and I am going to knock on their door and make them clean it up.

We decided to go out to breakfast.  We chose a restaurant called David's Place in Waverly, TN, about 8 miles or so up the road.  There are no restaurants on the grounds of the campground.  You have to drive the 7 miles back to I40 or the 8-10 miles into Waverly.  The food was good but the service was slow.  There were mostly locals in the place.  I had hot tea and when I wanted a refill on my hot water.  I asked 2 different waitresses for a refill but never got it.  I finally took my cup and walked up to the counter to get the water!  Guess who's tip got smaller.

The rest of the day we spent going through some storage containers seeing what we could get rid of when we get home.

After a nice dinner of steak, leftover scalloped potatoes, tomatoes and a salad.  We planned on heading down to the theater around 6:30 but around 6:00 we noticed the number of cars driving in.  We are taking the car as the trek up the hill after the show is pretty steep.  I was able to make it to the handicapped parking which was pretty close to the theater.  The theater is a building with open sides but it is covered.  Good thing as it gives shade and it was hot today.  About an hour before the actual show started they had a rock band called Up Next.  Wrong audience to have a rock band.  We decided to leave our seats and get some ice cream, which we ate outside under the trees.  We headed back in as the time got closer.

Our seats were in the second row but off to the right side of the stage.  Not bad.  The name of the show was the Van Lear  Girls.  I wondered why the name Van Lear so I looked Loretta Lynn up online,  Turns out that Butcher Hollow is in Van Lear County!

First up was Crystal Gayle with their sister Peggy Sue singing backup.  She put on a good show.

After a short intermission Loretta Lynn's son, Ernie Ray came out and performed a couple of songs.  he was ok.  He also played guitar in her band.

Soon they brought out Loretta Lynn.  She is 83 years old and can still sing.  She was helped out onto the stage by someone and she didn't do a lot of walking around.  I don't know if that is her normal style or what.  She sang a good collection of her hits.

After singing her songs for awhile she brought her sisters, Peggy Sue and Crystal Gayle out.  They sang a few gospel songs and then closed with Coal Miners Daughter.  All in all it was a good concert.

Afterward we sat at the campfire area and listed to Rodger Riggs for a bit until the traffic died down.  Soon we were in the rig and turning in for the night.  I took a lot of pictures, including some videos (which are not included in the slideshow).  Have fun.
