Desert View Campground
Needles, CA
So after getting clearance from all my doctors we are on the road and headed out to see family. We both didn't sleep well last night and were up and getting ready at 5:30 AM! I am not a morning person but couldn't sleep. We did get up and finish packing the rig with last minute things. We also set some things up at the house so that everything would be fine while we are gone. We decided to go out to breakfast since we had so much time.
Around 9:15 (we wanted to wait until the morning traffic let up) we hit the road. We are both a bit nervous about this trip. I guess the thrill of traveling is wearing off. No incidents on the road and we pulled into a campground in Needles, CA around 2:00 PM. It is warm here, around 90 degrees and the wind is blowing. The drive was about 250 miles. That is long for us but we are in a bit of a hurry.
The last couple of times we have stopped in Needles we have stayed at Fender's River Road Resort because it is a PA park. I decided I don't really like that park so we stopped at Desert View Campground, just up the road from Fender's. I think it is nicer but it is also more expensive ($35 a night). The sites are very level and they have some that are long enough that we didn't have to unhook the car. There are oleander bushes separating the sites. Once we got in and hooked up I had to turn on the air conditioner. We were able to get our Satellite dish to work with no problem.
We had a lot of stuff still in bags so our first order of business was to unpack everything and get them put away. We don't have that big chore again this trip but unpacking when we get home will be a major job.
Once we settled in and rested a bit I fixed an easy supper of hamburgers. That is a good camping first night out meal. Tomorrow we head out again.
