Weather.

 Dec 22

So there is this big winter storm headed our way tonight.  It has been sprinkling all day and the temps around 43 degrees.  Around 9:00 tonight the rain is supposed to turn into snow.  The temps are auto drop into single digits, close to zero.  The wind is supposed to blow at 40-50 MPH and cause whiteouts.  So ice is a big possibility.  Hopefully we won’t lose power tonight.  We won’t have heat if we do.  We have a number of blankets we can use if we need them. All the electronics are charged and we have lanterns and flashlights ready.  I probably won’t sleep well tonight. I am keeping my fingers crossed everything works out fine.  Friday and Saturday are both supposed to be super cold and Christmas them temp is supposed to be 15 degrees.  Prayers for everyone.

We woke up around 8:00 am today after a nice toasty night under our UGG comforter.  It did snow pretty good last night and the wind really blew.  It was -8 degrees when we got up.  The heater is working hard to keep up.  Happy we got the winter tuneup a month ago.  Today is a pajama day as we don’t plan on leaving the house.  So far, so good on the electricity.  The snow has stopped by the wind is still blowing.

Just a couple of inches of snow. The wind has blown it around so some spots don’t look like much but others are high.

So we survived the day. The weather never made it above zero and the wind blew all day.  We stayed home, just venturing to the front porch to check stuff out.  We didn’t even go out to the mailbox.  I doubt we got any mail anyway.  We did put on sweats but other than that just watched tv, read and played on the computer. Overnight it dropped down in temperature but no snow.  It really hasn’t snowed during the day either but did blow around off the ground.  It is a light fluffy snow, not icy.  We went to bed listening to the wind blowing but it was comfy under our heavy comforter.

Saturday morning it was pretty sunny but the temps are still really, really low.  It finally did get over zero. I don’t think it is going to get over 10 degrees.  We don’t plan on driving anywhere today but we did shovel the driveway and front porch.  We were able to get to the mailbox and no mail.  We needed to clear the driveway so we can get to the kids tomorrow for Christmas.  We are not supposed to get any snow until later in the week.  That will help.  We will be driving the Suzuki since it has 4 wheel drive and it we get in an accident we don’t care.  I don’t drive my new car much in this type of weather, just the older cars.

Sunday, Christmas Day.  We headed over to the kids house.  I had fudge, peanut rolls, deviled eggs, and cookies I picked up at the bakery.  Aimee is fixing dinner.  She made roast beast, salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls.  She made a chocolate tart for dessert.   She also had some appetizers.  We all ate too much.  Her parents were also there. We exchanged gifts and enjoyed our time together.  The roads were slick on the drive there and home but we went slowly and got both places safe and sound.  It is hard to believe that it all all disappear in the next few days.  Bill talked to the girls and we both talked to his sister later in the evening.

Monday will be a stay at home day again.  We had a small amount of snow today but tonight we are suppose to get up to an inch or so. By Wednesday our temps should be above freezing. In fact,  by Friday we should be close 60.

Friday- so the temps did get up to 64 today.  We had rain last night too so all the snow is gone.  One week and we went from wind chills of -28 degrees to todays 64 degrees.  Wild weather.  We went to our exercise classes on Tuesday and Wednesday but missed Thursday.  We had had some issues with our back door sticking and lit looks like the bottom weatherstripping is coming off.  We had a service guy out and he said he could repair it but water has been leaking in so in a couple of years or so we would need to replace it.  Since this was the same company that did our front door a couple of years ago we have decided to go ahead and replace it now.  It will look like our front door and be steel, not wood.  It costs a bit more than we expected but we are going ahead with it since prices only go up not down.

Saturday- for Christmas Nick got tickets to see the Harlem Globetrotters for all the guys.  The game is today.  The guys are Bill, Nick, Rory and Aimee’s dad, John.  While the guys are doing that we girls are going to a nice restaurant for lunch.  We will not be staying up until midnight but will probably wake up at midnight due to noise. So the boys had a really fun time at the Globetrotters.  The girls went to Coopers Hawk, a nice local restaurant.  We shared a bottle of wine, the restaurant also bottles their own wine, and had a very nice lunch. We spent about 2 1/2 hours just eating and talking.

Sunday - We didn’t have much planned. We did head out to Home Depot to get some potting soil and a pot.  Aimee gave me an evergreen as a gift and I need to repot it.  We also grabbed some more ice melt in preparation for the next snow event.  We wanted to get the car washed but it was closed. It was odd as to which places were open and which were not.  We are trying to up our daily walks.  I want to get to three miles.  So we did two 1 1/4 mile walks today.  I decided to cook the last of the frozen turkey leftovers for dinner along with fried apples and green beans. I am going to try and limit carbs in our diet this year.

Monday- since New Years Day was on a Sunday, the Rose Parade is on Monday this year.  So I am going to try and watch it.  The coverage is not as good as it is in Calif.  I miss the channel 5 coverage, there are too many commercials here and they mostly just show the floats. We walked 1.4 miles in the evening and our standard 1 mile in the morning.

Tuesday- exercise class today.  That means we won’t be walking in the morning but we did get in 1.5 miles miles in the evening.  We altered our course a bit to get there. We are going to try a few different routes to see what it takes to get up to 3 miles total.  The weather is pretty good with temps close to 60.  I tried a new recipe for dinner.  I made a quiche!  I have never made one before.  It was bacon and cheese.  Bill really liked it.  We will add that to a regular rotation.

Wednesday - two walks of 1.6 miles today. The early walk was a bit hard as I was stiff but we got them done.  In the morning we drove into Dayton to see our trust lawyer.  We had made some minor changes to the trust and needed to get the paperwork signed and notarized.  So that is done for a few years, unless something changes in the family or to tax laws.

Time to post and start the next post.
