Catching up

So let’s see, what have we been doing?  Not much.  We did go to a matinee show of Steeple People at La Comedia.  It wasn’t what I expected but it was funny.  The food was good as always.  We have also been going to Rory’s basketball games.  I think the team is now 3 losses and 3 wins.  The last game was interesting.  At the start of the 3rd period the scoreboard went out.  So we couldn’t see the score or the time for the rest of the game.  The scorekeeper kept track of the score manually and the ref kept time on his watch.  Made it hard to determine exactly where we were in terms of score and time.  We did win the game though.

Bill and I went to a local famous steakhouse for our anniversary, 44 years.  It is call The Pine Club.  It is on many “best steakhouse” lists and has been featured on the Food Network.  It opened over 70 years ago.  I hate to say it but we were not impressed.  We expected it to be dark and the booths to be red leather and the walls wood so not a problem there.  We got there as they opened so it wasn’t busy yet.  The service was good and the waitress polite.  Now the other things.  I had a glass of their house Pinot noir.  They are renowned for their wine cellar so I assumed their house wine would be excellent.  Sorry, it wasn’t.  I wasn’t thrilled with the wine but I drank it.  The bread basket was brought quickly but the bread was served at room temperature, not warm. With your dinner order you get to choose salad, meat, vegetable and potato.  Bill ordered the filet minion, cooked medium, he upgraded the salad to a wedge, had the daily veggie, green bean almondine, and a baked potato with cheese.  His salad was huge and he could only eat half.  His meat was cooked fine but the flavor of the steak was just okay.  The green beans were canned, not fresh, really disappointing.  The baked potato was big and just average.  My meal was the house salad with the house dressing, a ribeye steak, ordered medium rare, stewed tomatoes, a house specialty, and I upgraded the potato to potato lyonnaise.  The salad was just iceberg with grated carrots.  The dressing was an oil and vinegar without a lot of flavor.  The steak was cooked more to medium instead of medium rare. The tomatoes and potatoes were good.  Oh, the restaurant doesn’t take credit cards, cash only!  And you better bring a lot of cash.  With tip our bill was $160.  Any good steakhouse would be close in price but not to take credit cards!  We did know this in advance so we’re prepared with cash.  All in all, I won’t be returning as I know other places that serve better steaks. At least we tried it.

We received notice that one of Bill’s cousins passed away.  We were expecting it as he had been on kidney dialysis and decided to stop. It was just a matter of time.  Bill is deciding if he wants to go back to Pennsylvania for the service. If he does we will drive and just spend a day or so.

We did watch the Super Bowl but only off and on.  I had hoped the Eagles would win but they blew it.  It was an interesting game though.

The groundhog said we have 6 more weeks of winter but it seems like spring here. We have had some winds but the temps are in the 50’s. We do have rain in the forecast this week but may hit 70 degrees one day.

We went to see the movie 80 for Brady.  It was cute and funny.  I would recommend it.  This time of year there aren’t a lot of new movies out.

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.  We don’t do much for it because it is so close to our anniversary but Bill did buy me a necklace and earring set.  It is sterling silver with dancing diamonds in it.  I I’ll get a picture soon.

That is all for now
