Today we decided to take a drive on one of the roads less traveled in Glacier. As we left the motorhome it was sprinkling. It did that off and on all day long. The road we chose to take is called the North Fork road. Turns out that it is a 28 mile long dirt road. Parts are in better shape that others. We were hoping to see more wildlife along the road but all we saw, besides some ground squirrels and chipmunks, was one deer who crossed the road in front of us. This section of the park suffered a fire some time ago and you can tell it. Check out the slideshow at the end of the post. I know Bill was happy to get off of this road at the end. I think our teeth were shaken loose.
We also stopped at the Hungry Horse Dam which is in Hungry Horse, MT, between Kalispell and Glacier. It is the 11th tallest dam in the country. The town is called Hungry Horse after two draft horses who were found wandering the area. The locals said "Those are really hungry horses." We did stop at a fruit stand on the way home and I got some cherries and some huckleberries.
Now we have to get ready to leave tomorrow. We are moving to the East side of the park and into the town of St Mary. Enjoy the pictures. Remember, you can double click on the slideshow to go to a bigger version of the pictures.
