Elkhart, IN

Saturday & Sunday, Aug 14 & 15

Saturday wasn't much. We moved to Joliet, IL, just south of Chicago. We are staying at a Passport America park called Leisure Lake. It is a membership park but they also accept travelers. It isn't bad for only $26 a night. I don't think I would pay full price. We are only overnighting here. I messed up and told Bill not to unhook, we would stay in. Later I thought I should have driven him into town and had a Chicago deep dish pizza! I really blew that! The rain seems to have passed us as it was clear, hot and muggy all day. We drove 120 miles to get here. I broiled some pork chops for dinner and added some leftover veggies and things to go with them. We watched what TV we could pick up on the antenna. Here are some pictures of the place -

Sunday morning we woke up early and slowly got ready to move. Today we have 123 miles to go to reach Elkhart, IN. This used to be the RV capital of the world. I am not sure which manufacturers are still active there but we will see if we can get a factory tour. We are thinking about stopping at one of the RV Surplus shops in the area to see if there is anything we need. There is also a large Amish presence in the area so we will go looking around and shopping. We will be visiting the RV Museum there is here also. A lot to do in a couple of days.

I called a campground in North Carolina this morning to make reservations for Labor Day. With those dates set we are a little less flexible but wanted to get that done. Since it is a holiday we won't be getting any discounts even though it is a Passport America park.

We are parked at the Elkhart Campground, in Elkhart, IN. After we got all setup and ready I informed Bill that we would be eating out tonight. I found an Amish restaurant that I swear I ready was open on Sunday. But when we got there, a 17 mile drive, it wasn't. Bummer. Most everything we passed was closed. We knew where there was a Cracker Barrel so that is where we went for dinner. We will get to the other place another day. We also found a grocery store to pick up a couple of things.

It is not quite as hot here but is still muggy. I think it is in the 80's. That is all for now. I will post again tomorrow and will have pictures.
