Sunday & Monday, Nov 7 & 8
Sunday morning we were up and getting ready to move on. It is definitely turning into winter here. All three nights the temp was in the low 30's. Time to head south and warmer weather.
The drive down to Fort Smith, Arkansas was uneventful. We enjoyed looking at the leaves turning colors. Most of them are just about done but every so often you see a bright red or bright yellow tree. Brown is the major color you see though.
We are spending Sunday & Monday night on Fort Chaffee (an Army reserve base) just outside of the city of Fort Smith, AR. They actually have two campgrounds, one off base that everyone can use and one on-base that only military can use. The one on base is not completed yet. They don't have an office, laundry or shower house yet. All the sites have 50amp and many have 30 amp too. The grass is growing pretty high as there isn't really anyone to take care of things. When they finish it should be nice. We are one of three rigs in here. There is a small lake with ducks behind our site. I have pictures but won't post them until tomorrow.
On Monday we had to do laundry and some shopping. The water spigots here are inside a concrete block and you need a special "key" to turn them on and off. We found one of these at Lowes so we don't have to contact the office and have them come out before we unhook. We also did housekeeping inside the rig. I swept the floors and mopped the kitchen and bathroom floors.
Remember I had purchased a bunch of chicken for a cook-out at the beach with the kids and we didn't use off of it? Well, I took it home and froze it in small servings. Today I cooked some of the legs and a couple of breasts in the crockpot. When the chicken was falling off the bone I shredded it. Then I made a sauce or gravy and made chicken pot pie. Only thing I did different was that I didn't make the crust in a pie. I just baked some puff pastry and we put that on top. It was really good.
Well, I have to go get ready to leave this morning. We are headed to Oklahoma City today. Hopefully we can get into the campground on Tinker Air Force Base. If not, I have picked out another place. More later.
