What a difference a day makes

Wednesday, June 15

We had a surprise around midnight last night.  The rig started rocking and the sky started lighting up.  Yep, we were having a thunderstorm.  The wind was blowing pretty good, Terry and Ed got up and put their awnings in, but ours were already in.  At one point we brought the slide in since the topper was making so much noise.  The weather channel said it was really bad below us and above us.  We got some rain but not a lot.  We did have thunder and lightening though.

When we finally did get up the skies were clear and it was nice.  I was surprised.  During the storm last night I thought the group might have to cancel their plans for today.  A group of them are going to go to a zip line place.  Lucky for them the skies cleared.  Bill and I didn't go, we didn't want to spend the money on that and I didn't think I could do it physically.  Betty also didn't want to do so she stayed behind.  We had decided to get together for lunch afterward so Betty rode with us to that.  Our lunch selection?  Lambert's - The Home of the Throwed Roll in Ozark, MO, about 25-30 miles north of the campground.  We had never been there before.  The zip line group had a great time and had a lot of fun.

After we passed the place they were at for the zip line I called and was told they would be leaving soon so we continued up the road to the restaurant.  We made a stop for gas when we got off the highway then found a parking spot and put in our name for a table - Donner party of 10.  They told us 15-20 minutes.  I called the group again and they said they were about 15 miles away, great, the timing should work.  Nope, they called our table early so we had to pass up that table.  Back on the list we went after everyone got there.  We didn't have long to wait, less than 10 minutes before we were seated.  The restaurant is cool looking and I forgot to take pictures, of course.  Anyway, we were separated into two booths for lunch.  We ordered our entrees, I had fried catfish and Bill had chicken and dumplings.  You get to choose 2 sides with your meal.  Then they start bringing around 'fixin's" that they put on your plate, or paper towel if you don't have plates yet.  The fixin's were fried okra, black-eyed peas, macaroni and tomatoes, and fried potatoes with onions.  I didn't like the okra and you know I didn't eat the black-eyed peas.  The macaroni and potatoes were really good.  And, of course, you got the Throwed Rolls.  You get the roll guys attention and he chucks one in your direction.  These are really good yeast rolls and they are warm.  They serve margarine on the table and honey too.  My meal came with corn bread but I didn't eat that, I took it home.  The drinks are served in giant thermal mugs, even the coffee!  We all really liked our dinner.  If there was one in Branson we would go back soon.

After lunch we drove back to town and made a couple of stops along the way.  I was still looking for a hat to wear to I don't get a sunburned head.  I looked at Target, nothing there.  I finally found one at Kohl's.  My head is small and I was having trouble finding one that wouldn't fall down on my ears.  We also looked at vacuum cleaners and went back into Best Buy to verify the prices there.  When we got back to the rig Bill decided to take the vacuum apart to find out why it wouldn't start.  Turns out the switch is bad.  Bill connected the wires together and now it runs when plugged in.  I think we will leave it that way.

Most the rest of the day we just sat around and talked.  Around 7:00 PM we decided to go to Andy's Frozen Custard to have that for dinner.  Bill and I shared a blackberry concrete (like a Blizzard).  Chimay even had a small cone.  The weather cooled off nicely and we were able to turn off the air conditioner and open the windows for the night.  We slept good for awhile because a diesel pusher pulled into the spot next to us and neither one of us heard it!

It was a good day and we had a great time.  I hope you did too.
