Best laid plans

Monday, 5/21/2012

You know the old saying, "When man makes plans God laughs".  Well, he must be splitting his sides laughing today.  When I got up this morning I was kinda surprised that there wasn't any new ice in the bucket, especially since the ice maker is new.  I thought I would wait and see what happens.  We got some work done.  Bill washed the rig and I did the laundry and mopped the tile floors.  Still no ice.  Then I took a look at the temperature gauge in the refrigerator.  Hmm, it wasn't as cold as it normally is.  Bill went outside and looked in the back of the fridge.  Guess what?!? The cooling unit had gone out.  Major Bummer!!!!  I immediately turned the fridge off.  Of course it is now after 5:00 PM so all the service departments are closed.  I called a couple of mobile repair places and left messages.  One guy called back a little bit later.  Our luck dictates that the cooling unit is not in stock in any of the RV places in town so it will have to be ordered and may not get here until the first of next week.

OK, so now I have to cancel the plans I made for this weekend and adjust the rest of our schedule.  We are still aiming on getting into Cherry Point on Wednesday the 6th of June.  The kids are flying in that night and we need to pick them up.  I know that Stormy or Ashley would do it but they are coming in around midnight.  I hate to bother them with that but if necessary, they will pitch in.

Bill walked over to the mini-mart and got some ice so we can keep the stuff in there cold.  I immediately put my drugs in a cooler with a couple of ice packs.  That is the one thing I worry about.  I can replace all the food but the drugs would be a problem.  Tomorrow morning we will go over to the Outdoor Recreation office and rent a large ice chest.  That should keep the food good.  I may have to cook all the meat if it defrosts.  Hey, one large cooking day then all I have to do is reheat it.

Luckily we don't have to worry about losing our camping spot as this campground is first come, first serve.  It looks like we will be here until Tuesday morning unless they can overnight the part.  Good thing I bought that extended warranty policy when we bought the rig.  This is one major reason I don't make campground reservations too far out.  Oh well, we always just roll with the punches.  Have a good day.
