Tuesday we didn't really do anything except hang around the campground. But on Wednesday we took a drive down to Virginia Beach. Before we went there we drove over to the Exchange on Norfolk Naval base. It is advertised as the bigges PX in the world. It really is big but I still couldn't find anything I wanted to buy! I am not sure if that says something about me or about what they stock. We had lunch at the Chili's outside the PX and then drove around a bit. We tried to go on a tour of the base but the guy at the tour office wasn't real smart. He told us when we got there around 1:15 PM and said the next tour was at 2:00 PM. We were looking at the exhibits when they called the 1:30 tour. 1:30 tour? He didn't say anything about that! We asked if we could get on that one (there were only 5 people going and they use a big bus for the tour. He said, "Well, they are leaving now." No yes, or no. We left instead.
We drove around and down to Viriginia Beach. It reminded me of the Boardwalk in New Jersey but a little more modern. You couldn't see the beach through the hotels. Bummer.
We stopped at Fort Story to check things out. The lighthouses are still standing. We enjoyed a bit of time looking at ocean then headed back to the base.
Not much happened in the night. I have been living with 30 amps instead of the 50 amps that are suppose to be here. The plug is a 50 amp plug but the dummies who wired it did the job wrong and it only pulls 30 amps. That means I can't run my washing machine and the air conditioner. The air won out. Laundry can wait. Maybe I will do it tomorrow.
Here are the pics we took -
Thursday morning we pulled out early had headed up to Balitmore. This required us to drive up I95 and around Washington DC. What horrible traffic. It has been awhile since we have been in traffic that bad. It was one stretch of 15 miles that took over an hour! Now I remember why we don't come this way very often.
We are now settled into the campground at Ft Meade. For some reason we are in one site for 4 nights and one for 3 nights. Nobody ever said anything about having to change sites! Oh well, at least we really have 50 amps here. I contacted Jaime and we are trying to figure out when a good time for us to visit. Maybe tomorrow night instead of the weekend. Now I have to figure out what other things we will be doing. I know I want to go into DC on Tuesday but I am not sure about anything else.
So now it is time for me to fix dinner. Enjoy the pictures.
