Harley-Davidson and Cemeteries

Monday, July 9, 2012

Today we decided to take a tour of the Harley-Davidson plant here in York.  We arrived and saw a bunch of motorcycles parked out front so we thought we would have to wait a long time to get on a tour.  Turns out we only had about 15 minutes before the next tour started and they had two spots left.  Yeah!  We walked around the gift shop and checked out a couple of bikes they had on display.  You can't take a camera into the plant so I don't have any pictures of that, just the outside of the building.

It was a good tour.  They make the fuel tanks, fenders and frames here.  They also assemble and paint the bikes here.   The plant was in the middle of a changeover so we didn't get to see everything in operation but it was informative anyway.

After we finished there we headed back to the cemetery we were in yesterday but didn't have a map for.  We finally located the unmarked grave we were looking for.  Robert Karl Beyer is buried in the Grothe plot next to his second wife Mary.

We then headed to the last cemetery on my list.  I figured the office would be open but it wasn't.  Turned out that the office here is not on site but at the cemetery we just left!  A groundsman suggested we call and get the plot section number.   I did and we were finally able to locate Bill's Great-grandfather.  So now I have pictures of 5 generations, Bill's Mom, her father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather.  I will have to set up a collage of the headstones.

After all that we headed back to the rig to get some stuff packed up before we leave tomorrow.  I made a chicken dish for dinner.

That is all for now.
