York, PA

Thursday/Friday, July 5/6/2012

Thursday was a travel day for us.  We didn't pull out of the campground at Fort Meade until almost check-out time (11:00).  We only had 80 some miles to go so we weren't in a big hurry.  We even parked in the waiting area and went to the PX to do a little shopping before we left.  I picked up a couple of baby outfits that I need to send to Aimee soon.

After we finished there we left the base.  We did stop to fill up with diesel as it is cheaper here in Maryland than it is in Pennsylvania.  We arrived without too much problem but I really hate big city traffic.  We had to drive around the city of Baltimore to get to York, PA.  My goodness those people do not know how to drive!  And there was a lot of road construction, too.  I almost pulled the handle off the RV hanging onto it.  I was sooooo thrilled to get on I83 and head north.

We are camped at the Ben Franklin Rv Park.  It isn't a fancy park but we have a nice spot and the hookups work.  We are close to US30 so get some traffic noise but not much.  This isn't a park you would bring a bunch of kids to but it is fine for what we need.  We are mainly here to do some family research.

Friday morning we headed into York to visit the County Archives.  I really didn't find much more than I already had but I did get to look at some estate records.  It was interesting to see what items they owned when they died.  After that we stopped for lunch at Panera Bread then headed over to the Historical Society.  Here I went nuts.  They have a lot of info and I probably won't get through all of it before I have to leave.  I did get a volunteer to help who was a bit chatty.  She would go off on tangents so I never actually finished one thing.  I did get a lot of dates for births, deaths and marriages.  I have to go back tomorrow to see what else I can get.  I don't know if Bill is going tomorrow.

On our way home we stopped by Staples.  Bill's computer has finally broken the hinge and the plastic case is falling off.  It is about 7-8 years old so it is also very slow.  We finally upgraded to a new one for him.  Now he has to spend a lot of time moving things from the old computer to the new one.

We decided to have soup and sandwiches for dinner, the same thing we had for lunch!  Oh well, they are good for us.

That is all for today.  I will probably get some pictures taken tomorrow.  I have to go update dates in Ancestry now.
