Gerald Ford Presidential Library

Wednesday, Aug 8, 2012

Last night we decided to go out to breakfast this morning.  We figured if we had a big breakfast we would probably skip lunch and could then go out for dinner.  There is a Big Boy restaurant close to us but we decided to go on a food adventure.  We assumed (something you should never do) we would find plenty of restaurants along the Interstate.  Guess what?  Not here you won't.  We finally picked one off the GPS and had to drive 4-5 miles north to M21 to find anything.  All that we saw along the Interstate were farm fields.  Anyway, we finally found a place called Keisers Kitchen.  There were a lot of cars in the parking lot so we decided it must be good and it was.  The wait staff was friendly and the food filling.  Soon we were back in the parking lot and headed toward Grand Rapids once again.

Our destination today was the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum -

The Gerald Ford Presidential Library is located in Ann Arbor, MI and contains his papers and other research material.  The museum is more about his life before and after the Presidency.

The building and surrounding campus was very well done.  It is imposing and cozy at the same time.  Flash photography was not allowed in the museum but I did get some pictures in the places that had enough light.  Here is a part of the Berlin Wall -

We also saw a reproduction of the Oval Office and some of the gifts they were given during their term of office.

Betty also had her section of the museum.   Her support of her husband was immense but she also spoke her mind.  She was fully in support of women's rights and families.  She was also a classy First Lady -

Even though he was only President for 2 1/2 years, Gerald Ford had a large impact on the American People.  Gerald and Betty Ford are buried on the grounds of the museum.

This Presidential Museum is smaller than many others we have been in so it took a much shorter time to see.  We were out a couple of hours before Iexpected to be.

After we left the museum we headed over to Camping World.  We both had things we needed but hadn't found other places.  It was about 10 miles away from the museum.  We also tried to look at the motorhomes they had on the lot but a salesperson never came out to help.  We even requested one before we walked out to the rigs.  Guess they didn't want our money.  Most of the diesel pushers were locked and we couldn't see the layouts.

Our last stop in the area was a Costco.  We hadn't seen on in awhile and Lydia needed a few things that they sell at a good price.  Once we finished we headed back to the campground.  It was too early to eat linner so we stopped at the local Super Walmart to get some groceries.  I picked up enough meat for a few meals.  Once our items had been put away in the rigs we loaded into the car to find a restaurant for dinner.  We decided to go to a place called Germaines that was mentioned in the campground flyer.  It is always good to support those who advertise at the campgrounds.  Dinner was fine.  Lydia and I had prime rib, a little more done than we like it, Terry had a sirloin steak that was just OK and Bill had liver and onions that he said was good.

Back at the rigs we relaxed for the rest of the night.  Enjoy the pictures I took.
