San Antonio, TX

Sunday - Monday, Oct 7 - 8, 2012

We originally planned on going to Austin instead of San Antonio to visit the LBJ Presidential Museum but found out most of the displays in the museum were currently under renovation so we decided to go to San Antonio instead.  We will keep the LBJ Library on our to-do list.

We have been to San Antonio before and enjoyed our time here.  So off we went.  The drive was about 160 miles on Sunday and the traffic was light.  The only real problem was that there is a lot of road work going on around Ft Sam Houston, where we were headed.  That made driving difficult.  We did finally make it to the base and got checked in.  We didn't really do anything on Sunday.

Monday was our scheduled day to head into downtown.  We visited the Alamo, which we have seen before.  It is a very nice place to visit.  You can go in the memorial for free but they try to make you get your picture taken before you go in.  I hate that and will avoid it if possible.  The lady wasn't thrilled but we said, No, thank you.

Afterward we took a little walk over to the Riverwalk.  I guess our memories are going as we both thought there were little stores as well as restaurants down there.  I decided we were having Mexican food for lunch but that may have been a mistake.  The first place we went to had a really long waiting list.  The second one, Rio Rio The Original, we got a seat inside quickly but after 10 minutes we never saw a server so we left.  The greeter at the door said i hope you had a good meal and we told her we never got served so we are leaving.  Guess she didn't care.  Across the river was our last chance.  Turns out it was the most expensive too.  The service was better and we found out from our server that it is connected to Rio Rio and he actually works there too.  We told him about our lack of service and he said, yeah that happens during the day.  Guess they should clean up their act.  I had a taco salad and Bill actually had something different for him.  He had fajitas!

Our last stop was at the Riverwalk Mall.  We didn't find anything we were interested in so we then headed home.  I was very tired and my legs hurt so I took a nap.  We wee still full from lunch so we really didn't have dinner.

Here are the pictures.
