June 3, 2013 - Monday
We got an early start and pulled out around 8:30 AM. Why were we up that early? We stayed on a Marine base and Reveille was played around 6:00! And it was nice and loud. So we got up. We also wanted to beat some of the heat also.
During the evening Bill noticed that I had made a mistake in the mileage between where we were scheduled to stay and the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I had us driving 150 miles, one way, to see it. We decided to make a change to our trip and not go there this year. It will go back on the bucket list. That is one thing that we can easily do, change our plans!
We are so happy to get out of California. We got diesel in Kingman, AZ today and paid $3.78 a gallon! Regular gas is about $3.35! And they keep asking Californians to pay more and more gas taxes.
We are stopped for today and tomorrow at Blake's RV Ranch and Horse Motel outside of Kingman. It is a standard desert campground but the office, laundry room and bathrooms are very nice. I plan on doing some laundry tomorrow morning before we take off doing some exploring.
After getting checked in we decided to take a drive up to Hualapai Mountain and the county park to see what we could see. The office people told us there is a nice restaurant up there but unfortunately it isn't open tonight or tomorrow. We did find some mule deer and took their pictures. Here they are -
It isn't as hot here as it was in Barstow. I think it is about 10 degrees cooler. I hope it cools off some more.
That is all for today. I hope everyone has a good day.
