June 27-28, 2013 Wednesday and Thursday
We got up early on Wednesday to head into Riverton. Our neighbor, who is also going to the Samboree left around 6:30! Anticipating that we might wind up in an electric only site, Bill filled the fresh water tank. It is about 30 miles to the fairground. Well, when we turned off the highway there it was - a long line of rigs lining the street and filling the parking lot. We got in line and crossed our fingers. It took about 30 minutes or so but we did get a full hookup site. We are back in the corner and pinned in. We won't be leaving early on Sunday as we have to wait for a few other rigs to leave first.
Their check-in system was different than ours. The price you pay for the site is based on what type of site you get. It is $20 a day for full hookups and $15 for electric only. As you came up to be parked they asked which you wanted and gave you a form with that designation. After you got parked and setup you went into the main building to pay for camping and to pick up your packet for the weekend. We had paid for the Rally months ago. You could also visit on Wednesday and get to know your neighbors. That evening they hosted a sloppy joe and chips dinner. Oh, there is no wind here so my awnings have been out. Good thing as the sun beats down on the refrigerator side during the day.
Thursday there was a tour for those that were interested, back down to South Pass City. Since we had already been there we passed and stayed home. It is hot here, in the high 90's. We did go into town to visit Walmart to pick up something for the finger food gathering on Friday night. We also went to a local restaurant for dinner. We went to a place called the Bull and the Bistro. Since we are in beef country I decided to have a sirloin steak. Bill had prime rib. The food was good but I think a bit overpriced. My steak was $25. You did get a salad or soup, bread, a potato of your choice, and a veggie. My steak was cooked perfectly and was very tender. It was also too much food so I have some leftover for lunch. We decided to split a dessert and had huckleberry Cream Brule. It was really yummy and a big serving.
After we returned to the fairgrounds we went to the main building for opening ceremonies. The walk from the campground to the office is about a 5 minute walk, a little longer than the walk from where we were camped at Victorville to the Plus hall, so I am getting some walking in as we go back and forth a couple of times a day.
We signed up to play in the Pinochle tournament on Friday but didn't sign up for any other games. We will watch a few.
There are a couple of vendors here, too. We talked to the ones we were interested in. The LED light vendors are from Ontario, CA! We talked to them about some of the square dance conventions. They would be a good vendor at those events as many dancers also have RV's. I gave them contact info for the 2014 State convention and next years National. Don't know if they will contact the National but they are thinking about the State. They help you convert your current lights to LED and will help you install their lights. There is also a vendor who makes these solar lights. I think Gary F could make them for less than the $65 being asked here.
Here are all my pictures. Have a good day.
